Living history at every step
One of the best ways to get to know the essence of Tacoronte is to walk through its historic center, where every corner holds a story and every building speaks of the past. The tour can begin at the imposing 17th century Sanctuary of Christ. To cross its veined door is to enter a place of deep devotion, where the venerated image of the Santísimo Cristo de los Dolores stands out.
Next to the sanctuary stands the Old Convent of San AgustínToday it has been converted into the House of Culture, forming part of a historical complex declared a Monument for its high patrimonial value. Nearby, the Hamilton Gardens Park displays its lush green and native beauty, impossible to overlook.
At the end of the park, the visitor will find the Calvary, the Calvariosurrounded by pine trees that, according to tradition, are the last vestiges of the ancient forest that descended from the summits of the municipality. A few steps away, the sober Alhóndiga recalls the agricultural Tacoronte of yesteryear, when neighbors contributed wheat to feed the entire community.
The route continues in the Santa Catalina Parish ChurchA jewel of the Canarian heritage for its history, its architecture and the artistic treasure that it houses in its interior.
And to close the tour, nothing better than stopping in front of La Casona, a stately example of the traditional architecture of the island, or simply let yourself wander through the streets, aimlessly, breathing history and tradition in every corner.
