The canary pine forest is the protagonist in these summits.
The Agua García Forest belongs to the Protected Landscape of Las Lagunetas, one of the 43 Protected Natural Spaces that exist in Tenerife.
Las Lagunetas comprises a sector of the La Esperanza ridge covering an area of just over 4,000 hectares. It is occupied by forests that create a unique landscape and also fulfill fundamental ecological functions, such as soil conservation and rainwater harvesting. On the other hand, it is home to unique species such as the monteverde pigeons or the geranium Pericallis multiflora. In fact, the latter is exclusive, worldwide, to this area.
The Canary pine forest is the protagonist on the summits of Las Lagunetas. At lower elevations, it gives way to green forest and certain exotic tree formations, such as eucalyptus or Monterrey pine forests. The latter are fast-growing trees that were planted in the mid-twentieth century, without taking into account the ecological characteristics of the environment. The sole objective of these reforestations was to restore the forest areas that had been depopulated until then and, in a few years, to make abundant timber available again.
Today, management efforts have shifted in favor of restoring the landscape and preserving its values for the enjoyment of all visitors.
To encourage this recreational use, there is a network of trails and equipment that, as in Agua García, are distributed in different parts of the Protected Landscape for you to enjoy them.
