The name of this trail refers to the notable presence of centennial vineyards that accompany the hiker along the route. This is a circular section classified with low difficulty.
The trail begins at the Agua García Heritage Information Center, from where it descends along the Toledo and Salto Blanco ravines. In this natural environment, visitors will find two wooden bridges leading to the Cuevas de Toledo, also known as glass caves, a subwaynetwork excavated in the sixteenth century for the extraction of trachyte, a stone then used in the manufacture of glass.
As you enter this unique space, the biological diversity of the monteverde begins to unfold. The forest is enlivened by the presence of different species, but it is the vinatigo that is the real protagonist. Some specimens reach remarkable ages, such as the famous “de la Cuna” vinatigo, which could be between 800 and 1000 years old.
This place is also home to numerous curiosities. One of the most striking is the existence of small rodents that, after ingesting the slightly psychoactive sap that sprouts from the roots of the vinatigos, enter into a curious state of temporary intoxication.
