Tacoronte,
at a glance

Located in the north of Tenerife, between the green midlands and the Atlantic coast, Tacoronte is a municipality that combines landscape, history and tradition. With an area of just over 30 km², its average altitude of 500 meters above sea level allows it to enjoy a mild and varied climate, with areas of humid scrubland and mist at altitude, and sunny days by the sea.

Location and climate

The climate is humid subtropical, with temperatures ranging between 17 and 22 °C annual average. Rainfall is frequent in autumn and winter, especially in the highlands, where horizontal rainfall nourishes the monteverde forests. On the other hand, the lowlands and coastal areas offer clearer skies and an ideal climate for walks by the sea or sunsets at the viewpoints.

Population

Tacoronte has a population of about 24,000 inhabitants. Its people, known as tacoronteros and tacoronteras, preserve a strong bond with the territory, traditions and crops. The municipality is organized in different neighborhoods, among which Tacoronte casco, Agua García, El Pris, Mesa del Mar, La Caridad and Barranco Las Lajas, among others, stand out.

Tradition and history

History and culture can be felt in every corner of the municipality. Centennial churches, old convents and hermitages give shape to a rich religious and civil heritage. Popular festivals, such as the Santísimo Cristo de los Dolores in September, the Romería de San Isidro in June or the celebrations in honor of Santa Catalina in November, mark the calendar with fervor, music and tradition.

Land of flavors

Tacoronte is also a land of flavors. The wine with Denomination of Origin Tacoronte-Acentejo, the family guachinches, the fresh products of the farmer’s market and the typical dishes such as gofio, wrinkled potatoes or rabbit in salmorejo, make the local gastronomy an experience for the palate.

Nature

For nature lovers, Tacoronte offers a wide range of routes between laurel forests, pine trees and vineyards. The mountain of Agua García, the paths that descend to the sea or the cliffs of Pris are perfect to connect with the landscape at every step. The coast, with its wild and authentic character, keeps beaches like La Arena and natural pools that still preserve the quiet essence of the north of Tenerife.
