It was founded in the <strong data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"544\">17th<\/strong> century by the <strong data-start=\"553\" data-end=\"582\">Augustinian Fathers<\/strong>, and for years it was an important religious and educational center. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"983\">With the <strong data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"691\">disentailment of Mendiz\u00e1bal<\/strong> in the 19th century, the convent was expropriated and passed into public hands, forcing the religious order to abandon the place.
