{"id":1849,"date":"2025-05-07T14:17:22","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T13:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tacoronte.travel\/imprecindibles\/hermitage-of-san-juan-bautista\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T14:17:22","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T13:17:22","slug":"hermitage-of-san-juan-bautista","status":"publish","type":"imprecindibles","link":"https:\/\/tacoronte.travel\/en\/imprecindibles\/hermitage-of-san-juan-bautista\/","title":{"rendered":"Hermitage of San Juan Bautista"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 data-start=\"209\" data-end=\"256\"><strong data-start=\"209\" data-end=\"256\">A testimony of faith reborn from the ashes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"258\" data-end=\"538\">The <strong data-start=\"261\" data-end=\"292\">San Juan Bautista Chapel<\/strong> is one of the oldest and most historic temples in Tacoronte. Its original construction dates back to <strong data-start=\"394\" data-end=\"402\">1630<\/strong>, when it was erected in the <strong data-start=\"429\" data-end=\"458\">Hacienda de los Pr\u00edncipes<\/strong> thanks to the initiative of <strong data-start=\"487\" data-end=\"514\">Captain Agust\u00edn de Mesa<\/strong>, a great devotee of the saint. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"926\">However, the passage of time was not easy for this temple. In the <strong data-start=\"609\" data-end=\"642\">first half of the 18th century<\/strong>, a fire destroyed the original hermitage. It was then when, in <strong data-start=\"709\" data-end=\"717\">1740<\/strong>, by order of the presbyter <strong data-start=\"744\" data-end=\"774\">Don Joseph L\u00f3pez de Ossava<\/strong>, its reconstruction was undertaken <strong data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"830\">from the foundations<\/strong>, remaining since then as an emblematic place of the religious heritage of the municipality.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1258\">Its architecture has a <strong data-start=\"950\" data-end=\"972\">rectangular floor plan<\/strong> (14 x 5.5 meters), with a <strong data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1014\">single nave<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1016\" data-end=\"1033\">main chapel<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1057\">side sacristy<\/strong>. The main entrance is crowned by a <strong data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1136\">semicircular arch in stonework<\/strong>, and on the facade there is a <strong data-start=\"1168\" data-end=\"1199\">bell tower with four openings<\/strong>, which gives it a recognizable silhouette from a distance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1260\" data-end=\"1592\">In the interior, the <strong data-start=\"1279\" data-end=\"1296\">main chapel<\/strong> opens with a wooden <strong data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1329\">arch<\/strong> supported by pilasters. The nave has a <strong data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1416\">gabled<\/strong> roof, while the chapel stands out for its elegant <strong data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1488\">octagonal ceiling<\/strong> with geometric motifs in its decoration<em data-start=\"1531\" data-end=\"1540\">(lacery<\/em>), a sample of the detailed craftsmanship of the time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1594\" data-end=\"1797\">Reinforced in its corners with ashlars and completely whitewashed, the chapel retains a serene and humble atmosphere that invites you to stop, take a deep breath and connect with the deep history of Tacoronte.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":1639,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categoria":[48,59],"class_list":["post-1849","imprecindibles","type-imprecindibles","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categoria-heritage","categoria-religious-heritage"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
