{"id":1850,"date":"2025-05-07T14:15:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T13:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tacoronte.travel\/imprecindibles\/hermitage-of-san-jeronimo\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T14:15:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T13:15:11","slug":"hermitage-of-san-jeronimo","status":"publish","type":"imprecindibles","link":"https:\/\/tacoronte.travel\/en\/imprecindibles\/hermitage-of-san-jeronimo\/","title":{"rendered":"Hermitage of San Jer\u00f3nimo"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 data-start=\"178\" data-end=\"230\"><strong data-start=\"178\" data-end=\"230\">A seventeenth-century jewel between faith and memory<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"232\" data-end=\"589\">The <strong data-start=\"235\" data-end=\"261\">Hermitage of San Jer\u00f3nimo<\/strong>, erected in <strong data-start=\"276\" data-end=\"284\">1654<\/strong> according to a tombstone on its altar, is one of the oldest testimonies of religious architecture in Tacoronte. It was ordered to be built by <strong data-start=\"432\" data-end=\"455\">Oliveros de Romelet<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"485\">Do\u00f1a Isabel de Bolineau<\/strong>, his wife, and stands on the remains of a previous hermitage, where San Jer\u00f3nimo was already worshipped. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"591\" data-end=\"815\">Its structure has a <strong data-start=\"611\" data-end=\"633\">rectangular floor plan<\/strong>, with dimensions of <strong data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"676\">12 x 6 meters<\/strong>, and a <strong data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"721\">sacristy attached to the right side<\/strong>. The presbytery is slightly elevated thanks to a step, giving greater prominence to the altar. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"1102\">The <strong data-start=\"821\" data-end=\"854\">whitewashed masonry walls<\/strong>, together with the <strong data-start=\"869\" data-end=\"893\">stone bell tower<\/strong>, reflect the sobriety of traditional Canarian architecture. Some elements of the fa\u00e7ade have been covered with cement, which is evidence of later interventions, probably for its conservation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1327\">The <strong data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1138\">four-skirted roof<\/strong> is reinforced by wooden suspenders that balance the pressures of the walls, and stands out because of its <strong data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1282\">battlements decorated with geometric motifs<\/strong>, a detail that adds to the beauty of the interior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1329\" data-end=\"1472\">Beyond its aesthetic value, this hermitage keeps centuries of devotion, being still today a place of reference in the spirituality of the municipality.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":1640,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categoria":[48,59],"class_list":["post-1850","imprecindibles","type-imprecindibles","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categoria-heritage","categoria-religious-heritage"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
