It was originally part of a convent belonging to the <strong data-start=\"473\" data-end=\"499\">Augustinian order<\/strong>, active until the middle of the 19th century.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"539\" data-end=\"903\">With the <strong data-start=\"546\" data-end=\"573\">disentailment of 1837<\/strong>, which allowed the State to use former religious buildings for public purposes, the convent was closed. By then, the community of monks had almost disappeared. The former convent was used as the <strong data-start=\"792\" data-end=\"813\">Town Hall<\/strong>, while the church began to depend on the <strong data-start=\"864\" data-end=\"902\">parish of Santa Catalina M\u00e1rtir<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"1252\">Today, this sanctuary continues to be one of the most venerated places in Tacoronte, especially because of its connection with the <strong data-start=\"1027\" data-end=\"1052\">Cristo de los Dolores<\/strong>, a figure deeply rooted in the popular devotion of Tenerife.<\/p>\n<h3>Festivity of the Sant\u00edsimo Cristo de los Dolores (Holy Christ of Sorrows)<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1523\">Every <strong data-start=\"1193\" data-end=\"1207\">September<\/strong>, Tacoronte is transformed with the celebration of the <strong data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1281\">Fiestas del Cristo<\/strong>, one of the most important religious and festive events of the municipality.
